It goes without saying that Attorney General Loretta Lynch is a smart person. So she knew full well that if the media got wind of her private meeting with former president Bill Clinton — whose wife Hillary is under criminal investigation by the FBI — it would spark an uproar and raise questions about her integrity.
So the only feasible explanation for what took place is that she gambled on the venue, aboard her jet in a remote part of the Phoenix airport, being safe from prying eyes.
And the gamble might have paid off, had it not been “for a local reporter who received a tip about it.”
Her explanation, that it was just a social occasion where the discussion centered around nothing more significant than their grandchildren and Bill’s golf, is not sitting well with a lot of people.
Some speculate that Bill Clinton was at the meeting with the attorney general to plead for Hillary. But he may also have been there to plead for himself.
Bill Clinton is, reportedly, a person of interest in a criminal investigation pertaining to links between Hillary’s work at the State Department and large foreign donors to the Clinton Foundation.
According to former U.S. Attorney Joseph DiGenova, the meeting was a violation of the Justice Department’s policies.
“Bill Clinton, according to the department is a person of interest. What the hell is she doing meeting with a person of interest, no matter what the reason,” DiGenova said. “There is no reason to believe her representation about what transpired in that conversation. The whole set of circumstances surrounding how they met on the tarmac, in a plane with no witnesses, is simply appalling.”
And Judicial Watch has also joined the fray, requesting Thursday “that the U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General investigate the meeting yesterday between Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch.”
Now, if Ms. Lynch takes any further action going forward that can be interpreted as letting the Clintons off the hook, the repercussions would be immediate and immensely damaging to both her and the Obama White House.
